Whether you are a partner or a lab school, Marzano Academies will guide your leadership team through a comprehensive 3-phase implementation.

  • PHASE 1

  1. Embedded professional development and coaching with an assigned Marzano site implementation specialist.
    Phase 1 Focus:
    • Introduction to a personalized competency-based education (PC-BE) program,
    • Introduction to assessment and instruction using proficiency scales,
    • Development of learner-centered classroom practices.
  1. Guided development of customized proficiency scales. The process of defining learning goals and objectives and adapting instruction, assessment, and reporting practices to those that suit the proficiency scales is a long, comprehensive one. Our specialists offer long-term guidance and support to your leadership team in building a CBE community.
  2. Access to and training on names of books (Bookstore – Click Here) . There are a wide range of practices that can be used with CBE in mind, but disparate use of a few practices does not create a successful, functioning CBE system.
  3. Access to and training on Empower Software. Student user licenses: product Introduction and technical support on “getting started” with the new student, data management system. This system is required for lab schools because of the valuable, real-time data that can be gleaned by using it.
  4. Access to the Marzano Compendium of Instructional Resources—a vast online resource of educational research and materials to support classroom teachers.
  5. Ongoing support for individual teachers and leadership teams. Site implementation specialists work with the school’s leadership and teaching staff to measure and provide feedback on PC-BE progress.
  • PHASE 2

  1. Embedded professional development and coaching with an assigned Marzano site implementation specialist.
    Phase 2 Focus:
    • Development of instructional and assessment skills that help students refresh, revise, and integrate their knowledge regarding specific proficiency scales both current and previously addressed,
    • Leadership coaching and teacher development,
    • Professional development to expand knowledge of and skill with proficiency scales,
    • Development of engaging classroom practices and practices that focus on maximizing student agency.
  1. Continued training on Empower Software. Student user licenses and continued technical support.
  2. Ongoing creation, review and adjustments of proficiency scales.
  3. Optional introduction of Rachel’s Challenge, a whole-school, student leadership program.
  4. Developed from analysis of the nation’s standardized tests, our item frames are an instructional strategy designed to deepen content knowledge and improve test scores. Using item frames as a guide, teachers can directly expose students to items of the type they will see on the test; however, they can also directly address the implicit requirements within items that often intimidate or confuse students. Teachers who use the item frames strategy methodically and within a context of cumulative review are helping students practice important skills, deepen content knowledge, and de-mystify or “decode” each item they encounter on a standardized test.
  5. Ongoing support for individual teachers and leadership teams. Site implementation specialists work with the school’s leadership and teaching staff to measure and provide feedback on PC-BE progress.
  • PHASE 3

  1. Embedded professional development and coaching with an assigned Marzano site implementation specialist.
    Phase 3 Focus:
    • Teacher development
    • Individual student, classroom and school reporting linked with Empower
  1. Empower Software. Student user licenses and continued technical support.
  2. Continued monitoring and customization of proficiency scales. If your site chooses to implement complimentary resources such as item frames (an instructional tool geared for success with standardized tests), your team will receive guidance during phase 3.
  3. Personal Project Development: Planning tools for student to generate, execute, and revise plans as needed to meet their project goals.
  4. Introduction of the Marzano Vocabulary program.
  5. Ongoing support for individual teachers and leadership teams. Site implementation specialists work with the school’s leadership and teaching staff to measure and provide feedback on PC-BE progress.
